Redskins Name Change: Twitter Reacts To DC Mayor Vincent Gray Demanding RG3 And The Skins Change ‘Offensive’ Name
A Redskins name change may be in the works after DC Mayor Vincent Gray demanded that the Washington Redskins have a discussion about changing what he considers to be an "offensive" name.
"I think that if they get serious with the team coming back to Washington, there's no doubt there's going to have to be a discussion about that," Gray said, according to the Washington Post. "I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would be love to be able to sit down with the team ... and see if a change should be made. There's a precedent for this, and I think there needs to be a dispassionate discussion about this, and do the right thing."
The Redskins name change has been a controversial topic for decades, as some consider it to be a racial slur towards Native Americans, according to iSportsTimes. However, those opposed to a Redskins name change argue that the name, which dates back to the 1930s, is a tradition that should not be changed.
Many people took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the Redskins name change. What do you think?
