‘Star Wars’ Creator George Lucas Engaged To Businesswoman Mellody Hobson
Just months after making headlines for selling off his company Lucasfilm Ltd. to Walt Disney Company for more than $4 billion in cash and stock, representatives of the company have confirmed that George Lucas is engaged to longtime girlfriend and business woman Mellody Hobson.
Lucas and Hobson have been dating for seven long years and the couple has never tried to keep their relationship private. They have made appearances as a couple at various public events including red carpets of film festivals and Formula One Grand Prix races, reported Huffington Post.
The 43-year-old is a well established businesswoman and heads the Chicago-based investment management firm, Ariel Investments LLC. She also serves on the board of various well-known companies, including cosmetics company Estee Lauder Companies Inc., Hollywood studio Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc., coffeehouse chain Starbucks Corp and Internet coupon company Groupon Inc.
Along with being at a top position at the aforementioned companies, Hobson is also a regular financial contributor to "Good Morning America."
Other details of the wedding, such as the date and venue, have not been released yet by the couple or their representatives.
In late 2012, Lucas sold off his company, Lucasfilm Ltd., including the "Star Wars" franchise that he launched to the Walt Disney Company. According to Us Magazine, the 68-year-old filmmaker said at that time that he wished to see the "Star Wars" franchise live beyond his time and it was necessary for him to pass it on to the next generation of filmmakers while he was alive.
Lucas made headlines again when he decided to donate the entire earnings from the deal to an education foundation.
This will be the second marriage for the filmmaker, who was married to Marcia Lucas for 12 years from 1969 to 1983. He also has three children: Amanda, Katie and Jett.
For Hobson, this will be her first marriage.
