Steubenville High Athletes Joke About Sexual Assault In Leaked Video From Anonymous [VIDEO]
A horrifying new video was leaked by the hacktivist collective known as Anonymous on Wednesday, which allegedly shows a number of Steubenville High students mercilessly mocking a 16-year-old girl who was raped at a party last year.
The unidentified female student was allegedly attacked by Steubenville High football players Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond, and the ensuing legal battle has bitterly divided the small Ohio town according to a recent New York Times article about the crime. Many were horrified to learn that only two students currently face charges related to the rape, particularly since the Times was given reason to believe that dozens of teens witnessed and photographed/recorded some portion of the assault on the night of August 11, 2012.
According to the YouTube user misternunya (who uploaded the clip), the student seen in the video is fellow Steubenville High athlete Michael Nodianos, though others can be heard speaking on the 12 and a half minute clip as well. It's unclear how Anonymous managed to get their hands on the footage, and it seems rather unlikely that the Nodianos family would acknowledge/confirm Michael's appearance in the video.
During the 12 minute video, the student identified as Michael Nodianos rattles off a number of offensive and insensitive jokes about the alleged August rape that landed Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richardson in legal trouble. Nodianos can be heard saying that the alleged rape victim was "deader" than Trayvon Martin, Caylee Anthony, and a slew of other notable figures. He even makes mention of the players falsely accused of sexual assault in the infamous 2006 Duke lacrosse case.
When one or more people in attendance at the recorded gathering began to speak out against Nodianos' comments, questioning how he would react if the student was his own daughter, Michael replies with a curt "It isn't" and continues making gut-wrenching jokes about the situation.
Jezebel was one of the first outlets to notice the new video, and the site says that Anonymous still plans to expose a group of Steubenville High athletes, who allegedly refer to themselves the "rape crew," if all of those allegedly involved in the August 2012 rape don't come forward and issue a public apology.
Warning, this video is both extremely unsettling and not safe for the workplace:
