Well, Tuesday night's Hofstra debate in Town Hall style was interesting to say the least. Both of the candidates came into the ring swinging while also making some memorable gaffes which disenfranchised a large portion of the voters they were trying to sway.

 Venturing in some mighty odd directions, the guys discussed everything from machine guns to drug lords, Romney's pension to his "binders full of women". Even good ol' Big Bird resurfaced for a moment. Ironically, it seemed few of the real questions people were asking got answered, but the tension made for some great reality TV drama, and more than once I feared the guys would end up in a knock-out drag-out fight to hold the floor and gain approval from their undecided voters. At one point, candid Candy Crowley came to the rescue of President Obama and well, all I can say is, this debate reached levels of strangeness that could only be trumped by Will Ferrell's The Campaign movie.

Though numerous keywords and quotes made it to the trending twitter list this evening, the one that takes the cake emerged when President Obama took a stance on deportation, leading to the surprising utterance of a word few would have ever expected to hear during a presidential debate.

Though the president's comment was well-intentioned, if you take a look at it for a moment, it shouldn't be long before you realize just which word got the tweet machine rolling and is still a trending topic now.

"Rather than going after students and people who are a part of the workforce, President Obama said, "If we're going to go after folks who are here illegally, we should do it smartly and go after folks who are criminals, gang bangers, people who are hurting the community."

If you guessed "gang bangers" then you'd be right. Safe to say, this is the first time gang bangers ever made their way into a presidential debate. This is just one more memory you can add to that massively accruing scrapbook book of election year gaffes we have all been collecting. From that moment forward, I'm pretty sure no one else was listening to a word the president said, as everyone frantically headed to Twitter to offer their own witty commentary on the word.
