Sony's PS Vita has received critical acclaim from both reviewers and its somewhat small, yet dedicated followers, but one thing we all can agree on is how over-priced the PS Vita is currently. A starting price of $249 just for the Wi-Fi-only PS Vita is quite the hefty price tag when you consider you can purchase probably purchase older generations of the Xbox 360 and PS3 below that price, and almost being able to buy a Nintendo Wii U. A price cut is completely inevitable for the PS Vita, but when will those of us who don't have money pouring out of our pockets be able to get one? Much sooner than you think.

When we say sooner, don't count on an official price drop happening any time this holiday season. Instead, Sony plans on dropping the price of its PS Vita sometime in 2013.

The news of the upcoming price drop for the PS Vita comes from Sony's UK Managing Director, Fergal Gara. When asked about the possibility of a price cut, he had this to share with Eurogamer:

"We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when. We won't have an across the board price down this Christmas. But what you will see us doing is work very hard with our retail partners to add value to the product to make it more compelling."

As most console manufacturers do around holidays, bundling their system will certainly help make the outrageous price of the PS Vita a little more bearable if new customers can receive a game or a memory card with their purchase. This will serve as a way to unofficially give the PS Vita the price cut it needs while giving new Vita owners not only the handheld they want, but also a game and/or memory card for the price of a single Vita system.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't plan on buying any gaming console until an official price cut happens, then 2013 will be your year, but really consider any bundles Sony announces this holiday season as I'm sure they'll be bundled with games that you already plan on buying when you get your PS Vita.
